A clever tile-laying game. The southern French city of Carcassonne is famous for its unique Roman and Medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around Carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. The skill of the players to develop the area will determine who is victorious.
Carcassonne is one of our most popular games for the very reason that it is easy to teach and very minimal setup time. Carcassonne is a tile placement game, almost like building a puzzle, but with some strategy and luck involved. Another great thing about Carcassonne is when you have mastered the game, you can add many different expansions to change the game and give you all new challenges.
Carcassonne: Inns and Cathedrals will allow you to add another player for a total of 6 players (instead of just 5), extra tiles and new tiles, plus much more.
Carcassonne: Traders and Builders adds the Trader tokens, whoever has the most at the end gets some bonus points and the builders that allow you to play more then one tile in a turn, new tiles and more.
Carcassonne: King & Scout a small expansion that adds 7 new tiles to the original Carcassonne and 5 new tiles for Carcassonne: Hunters & Gatherers.

this is a great family game. we play with everyone 6 and up with no problems (but with less strategy on some players' part!). a classic.

Easy to learn, quick to play, but full of possibility and creativity, Carcassonne is a modern classic. A nice feature of the design is that you can play as competitively or co-operatively as you like, and there's no right or wrong answer. This is a great way to get friends hooked on Eurogames!
