Hive: Third Edition is a board game with a difference. There is no board! In Hive the pieces are added to the playing area thus creating the board. As more and more pieces are added the game becomes a fight to see who can be the first to capture the opposing Queen Bee forming a "Hive".
The soldier ants battle to keep control of the outside of the hive, whilst the Beetles climb up to dominate the top of the hive. Spiders moving into holding positions as the Grass Hoppers jump in for the kill. Keeping one eye on the hive and the other on your opponents reserves, the tension builds as one wrong move will see your Queen Bee quickly engulfed in the hive ....game over!

Fun Games Cafe has imported Hive, a great little 2 player strategy game that isn't readily available in Canada. Hive is quick, fun and you can play it anywhere since you create the "board" with the pieces as you play it. This is the third edition version that has very high quality components made from thick heavy Bakelite. We enjoy Hive a great deal and wanted to make this boardgame easily obtainable to our Canadian customers.
Hive is a neat abstract game (like chess) where the game pieces are insects. The rules are simple: each player starts with the same set of insect pieces and takes turns either introducing a new piece or moving a piece, with the goal of surrounding their opponent's Queen Bee. One of the unique aspects of this game is that there is no board, instead the pieces are placed next to each other to create a "Hive"; pieces then move around the hive. The pieces are wonderful, chunky bakelight that is very durable and allows the game to be taken and played just about anywhere. Hive takes many of the gameplay elements of other abstract games and transforms them into a small, quick-playing package.
