I recently purchased this game because my friends and I really liked the Ticket To Ride series of train games. Railways of the World is a bit more complicated, and a lot more involved, but also a LOT more fun! It quickly became my new favourite game, and my friends and I can't wait to play again.
The game board and all of the pieces are very high quality, durable, and quite attractive. The game looks amazing when it's in play. The concept of the game is relatively simple, however one problem is that there are not enough examples in the instructions, and some things are not quite as clear as they could be. This problem was easily solved by Googling my questions and watching a few helpful online video reviews.
The game is best played with 5-6 people, but if you are playing with a smaller crowd, you can always play using the secondary Mexico map and cards, which are also included. It's also a good way to start if you're just a beginner and are not sure how to play the game yet.
Regarding game play time, it averages out to about 45 minutes of game play per player, so a 5 player game takes a little over 3 hours. It doesn't feel like that long though, because you're having so much fun!
Since purchasing this game, I have also acquired the Rails of Europe expansion, which offers a new game board featuring a map of Europe and new cards. Can't wait to play! The good thing about this game is that it never really gets old, because you can constantly switch maps or even create your own.
Great game!
