Ra

Lead your dynasty through 2000 years of history in ancient Egypt. Gather as much fame and honor as possible. Place the most pharaohs. Establish unequaled monuments and use the fertility of the Nile. But don't neglect your people and their culture. And pay homage to the gods -- lead by the sun god Ra -- otherwise the fame of your dynasty is quickly lost.

Back by popular demand, this is a classic Reiner Knizia, and sure to be a game you play over and over again!

"Ra" remains my favourite of all of Knizia's many, many auction-based games. Gameplay is straightforward and elegant, but tactical opportunities abound. The theme is, unsurprisingly, very abstract and yet the artwork and overall presentation is also very evocative; there is a certain satisfaction in "invoking Ra" to begin an auction round. More involved than "High Society" but less complex than "Modern Art", this may be Knizia's most well-rounded entry into the pure-auction genre.
